George L. Richardson, 60, of 17 Fenimore Blvd., special representative of Equitable Life Assurance Society, who was associated with the advertising department of The Springfield Newspapers for 22 years before he entered the insurance field, and a leader in American Legion affairs of the area, died in Springfield Hospital Tuesday. He was born in this city July 31, 1899, son of George W. and Hattis [sic] (Aker) Richardson, and had made his home here for the past 35 years. He was a 1917 graduate of Chicopee High School and attended Middlebury College. Mr. Richardson was a member of South Congregational Church and a veteran of World War I. He was past commander and Americanization officer of Post 21, American Legion, and secretary of the executive board of the Hampden County Council, American Legion. He was a member of Samuel D. Sherwood Lodge of Masons, all Scottish Rite bodies Melha Temple Shrine, the Chanters, the Legion of Honor and Adelphi Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Richardson was a well-known singer, and church soloist. He leaves his wife, Mildred (Calkins) Richardson; a son G. Robert Richardson of this city; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Esther Hutchison of Yucaipa, Cal., and a brother, William J. Richardson of Glendale, Cal.
