Shared note | Hannah King was the granddaughter of Hannah Boone, Daniel Boone's sister. Daniel was the 6th child and Hannah was the 11th. |
Note | Hannah married John Wilson "Old Man" Whisman on May 06, 1821 in Union, Co. Indiana.
Hannah was the granddaughter of Hannah Boone Stewart Pennington, the sister of Daniel Boone.
Hannah and John settled near what is now Mountain View, Ca. in 1849. There they established a inn and the first stagecoach connection between San Jose, Ca. and San Francisco, Ca. John, Hannah and 10 of their 12 children made the trip from Missouri in a covered wagon in 1847. Two of their children, Sarah and Hannah, had died while they were still living in Missouri.
The fare for the stagecoach and inn was $32.00 or "2 ounces". This was, after all, during the time of the great California gold rush. John sold his business in the summer of 1850 due to competition who had better equipment. John and Hannah then started farming and acquiring property and at one time owned the "Posaimi grant" which was 3,301 acres. Moffett Field Naval Air Base is located there today.
In the 1850's John and his son-in-law William Haun (my ggg grandfather) established a flour mill in what is now the town of Saratoga, Ca.
John was also a trustee of the old Santa Clara Female Seminary founded in the early 1850's. A reasonable position considering he was the father of nine daughters.
Hannah died at the age of 88 years of age and is probably buried in the Old Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, Ca. or Madronia Cemetery in Sarasota, Ca. but I am unable to prove it at this time. |
