FARMINGTON -- William N. Gould, 84, died Sunday at the Franklin Memorial Hospital. He was born in Falmouth, the son of Howard and Cora Wilson Gould. At the age of four he moved here with his parents. He attended local schools and graduated from Farmington High School in 1920. He attended Gray Business College in Portland. He was in the dairy farming business for many years, retiring in 1953. He was foreman at Franklin Farm Products Co. until 1968. He was well-known for his working knowledge of horses and was a trainer of standardbred horses until 1977. Mr. Gould married the former M. Elsie Savage, June 25, 1930, in New Vineyard. They were married for 55 years and lived here during that time. He was a member of the Old South Congregational Church and a 60-year member of Farmington Grange No. 12. He was a member of the U.S. Trotters Association and the New England Horsemen's Association. He served as town selectman from 1970 to 1974. Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lillian Stone of South Harpswell and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Keegan Funeral Home, 5 Hill St., with the Rev. Richard Waddell officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetary.
